Utah Trip: Thanksgiving 2018 - Part III

On Thanksgiving day Oscar and his sister Melissa ran the Turkey trot 5 and 10K while I put on a Thanksgiving party for the little ones.

It went really well. The Turkey feather shake was particuarly popular
Here's Tyler being my little artist while the others wanted to keep shaking.

I had another Thanksgiving meal coming up with my family at Mike's house, so I didn't eat too much at this one. I couldn't resist the homemade rolls and smore pie, though.

Mike gave his dog Maggie her own Thanksgiving spread, which she promptly devoured. We stuffed ourselves on delicious food and watched Netflix the rest of the day. The next morning we also kept things low key since Ethan wasn't feeling well and Oscar forgot to leave us the carseats when he went up north to hang out with his brother. Tyler read books to mom and dad, including "Hop on Pop," which was very impressive for a Kindergartener. Dad helped when he'd struggle with certain words, but we were all blown away that he got through the entire book.

That evening our family, mom, dad, Emma, and Sophie piled into Mike's Infinity to see "Christmas in Color." There was a long wait at the beginning in spite of pre-purchasing our ticket. Normally my kids would be awful during long waits in the car, but they had grandma, grandpa, and cousins to amuse them.
It was awesome! The characters sang along to the music which was synced up to the lights. I didn't get great video of it, but at some point in one of the videos you can hear Tyler say " the snowman is singing!"

The tunnels were neat!

Especially the Rainbow tunnel

From there we dropped the girls off, piled into our car, and met up with mom and dad at temple square. We let the kids play in the family history wing at the JSMB while we waited for them to arrive.
Cuteness at the temple! It was very rainy but reasonably warm (around 48 degrees). I was actually getting a bit hot in my layers.

I love the beautiful nativity in the grass lit up along with biblical recitation. We tried to see the Christus statue, but the line was long and I figured we could easily see it on any other Utah visit.
The kids enjoyed the gingerbread structures in the Macy's store windows and zonked out almost instantly in the car.

There was snow in the morning, but it cleared up by the time we reached Ogden on our drive home. You can see from the pics on the upper right and left that Oscar is a master packer. Everything on the right pic was tucked down in the undercubby of our car as seen in the left pic.

We made just one major stop along our drive to let the kids play at the Discovery Museum of Idaho. They traveled better than they ever had this trip.

Allison fell asleep with a chicken nugget in her hand, so Tyler pretended to do the same.

We could have made it all the way home in one day, but figured why bother when we can have a fun night with our Richland friends instead. We left leisurely the next morning and were happy to see the roads on Snoqualmie Pass, which had received a ton of snowfall over the weekend, were now completely clear.

  1. Loved all the beautiful and fun pictures and all the beautiful lights that we saw riding in the van and then the temple lights. Such a great and fun time and Thanksgiving.
