Las Vegas Trip 2020

We had some flight credits with Spirit that needed to be used, so we decided to take a trip to Missouri in mid-July to visit Oscar's sister Emily and family. We had to fly through Vegas to get there, so we spent 3 nights there too. Our flight got in around 10:50pm, but we still had to grab our rental car, so it was after midnight by the time we got back to the hotel and got our kids down to bed. It was a bit rough, but they handled it far better than our late flight into San Diego in February.

The next morning we met up with Jake Mckinney and family. I'd served with Jake in Collegno. He took us out to the city of Apex to do some ATV riding. His 9 year old took Tyler out for a ride.
And his 12 year old took Allison out too.
Oscar and I went out while the kids took a break. It was VERY hot, around 105 already that morning. It got up to 115 that day so we had to get going as early as possible. The kids liked riding but they had to wear those hot helmets in the heat, and they were tired from the late arrival the previous night. Fortunately Jake had provided drinks and donuts for everyone. Allison and some of his kids played in the rental car with the air conditioning on when the heat was getting to be too much. At one point she moved up to the front seat and started playing with the wipers. Good thing she didn't change the gears!

On the drive back the kids fell right to sleep. After a bit of rest I took them down to the hotel pool. Taking off our sandals to walk into the pool was scalding hot! The sun was right on the pool making it feel like a hot tub.
Around 4pm we drove out to Red Rock canyon to do some scenic driving. Allison slept the entire route, but Tyler got out for some of it. The kids aren't yet crazy about scenery. They'll enjoy it on a hike, but they're not going to hop in and out of a car for it.

Tyler liked the colored rocks, especially since red is his favorite color.

Beautiful!

Allison woke up just as we were heading out of the canyon. I figured she'd be full of energy after her nap, so we took them to a splashpad where they could cool off and be active.
The kids were far more interested in the playground than the splash pad. It was shaded, but it was still crazy hot. Usually they don't want to play on hot playgrounds, particularly Allison.
Eventually they came around to the water. Tyler in particular got completely soaked.

The next day we took the kids over to the air conditioned Circus Circus Adventuredome.

Here they are on BC bus and roadrunner.

After they did the Froghopper I took Tyler on the 48 inch rides. We got stuck on one of them when our restraints wouldn't lift off. It took about 15 minutes for a repair person to release us.

Oscar took Allison on a few kids' rides. while Tyler and I hit up the coasters. She loved the mer-horse on the Carousel.
I loved the yellow coaster! The pink one I used to ride growing up is way too rough now. It used to be super smooth.

I had to take turns with the kids on the bumper cars since only a 54+ inch person could drive them. Allison was delighted! She loves bumper cars. Even the slightest bump of another car makes her squeal in delight.

We took a break to eat lunch and go for a swim, but by the time we were done with that the kids just wanted to relax and play their Kindles. We never did go back to the Adventuredome like we'd planned, but the kids weren't too concerned. They knew we'd be going to Six Flags St Louis in a few days anyway and there'd be lots more rides there. There were certainly plenty of rides at Six Flags, but with masks in 90+ degree humid weather, they definitely missed the indoor, air conditioned themepark in Vegas.

  1. I love this fun blog. So much fun riding on the ATV's going to the splash park and then on to Circus where they have a theme Park. Wow I bet the kids had a ball doing so many things while in Las Vegas. I think you may be spoiling them with all these trips but it is a wonderful thing to be exposed to travel. So glad it was such a fun trip and I loved all the pictures you posted sweet daughter Stacy
