On our first day there was so much snow that we just hung out at Marcus and Martha's all day. Allison had a Cap'n Crunch waffle. I'd suggested it for her, meaning sprinkle a handful of cereal pieces on top of the waffle, but it ended up in the batter (and tasted like eating a waffle with really soggy cereal filling).
Tyler could tell this mound of snow in grandpa's backyard was a slide, and he asked for his snow clothes so he could go play on it (fortunately I'd brought snow gear in case we decided to go tubing up in the mountains. We never did go tubing, but the kids got a lot of good use out of their snow attire just out in grandpa's backyard). Tyler didn't realize there were sleds available, so he tried going down it on his butt unsuccessfully. Martha pointed out the sleds, and soon enough he was having a grand old time.
Allison wasn't interested at first, but she saw him having so much fun she decided to join him.
On Saturday we met up with lots of cousins at SeaQuest. It was super busy since it was a cold Saturday. It might not have been the ideal day to go there, but these cousins had school during the week, so our get together days were pretty limited.
Tyler enjoyed the feeder fish and sting rays. He let those fish nibble on his hands for a good long time and initially agreed to do the fish pedicure with me.
They both fed the tortoise, but Tyler got bit because he put the spoon a bit too close to his fingers. Needless to say, it soured the experience for him.
After Seaquest and some screen time, Tyler helped grandpa rebuild the sled hill (or snow slope as he calls it) and both kids played together. Grandpa took these videos above. He made a path for them so they could slide further once off the hill.
On Sunday we went to church with Melissa and family then had fun with toys and tablets before heading to aunt Julia's.
At Julia's we had a yummy dinner, and the cousins were having so much fun playing together that the adults were able to get a little game time in.
The next morning Julia came over to give the kids haircuts. Allison looked like the statue of liberty with the cape on.
We got even more snow and the kids did more sledding, though they were getting a bit tired of it at this point. There were several days like this one that would snow hard in the morning but the roads would clear up later in the afternoon. Fortunately Utah has good infrastructure for handling its snow, unlike Washington and Colorado. Washington doesn't keep a lot of snow plows since they rarely get snow, but I was expecting Colorado to be more like Utah. Turns out Colorado gets a lot of snow, but unless you're in the mountains, there's so much sun that it tends to melt pretty quickly, so there aren't as many snow plows going around as you might expect.
Once we felt safe on the roads, we drove down to Draper to go bowling with Jinks cousins.
Allison didn't have much to do at Mike's house and was getting bored and restless, so we bought her a new box of Legos, which she insisted Emma and Sophie build with her. Ethan and Tyler played Minecraft together, and Oscar and his dad enjoyed a fish dinner while we were gone.

Later that afternoon Melissa and her girls come over to visit and play

This snake was very active and clearly aware of the people watching it.
The kids had some fun with cousins, but the crowds made it difficult to keep everyone together.
Here's Allison feeding the big, but very grateful, pig. He thoroughly enjoyed it.
Both kids enjoyed petting the yellow python.
Tyler also fed the goldfish
Tyler decided last minute not to do the fish pedicure, but I'd already paid for two of us, so Oscar did it with me instead. It was surprisingly less ticklish than I was expecting. I mentioned that to an employee, and he said most people don't realize that hands and arms are more ticklish than feet. Who knew?!The cuts turned out great!
We also did glowlight minigolf.
ReplyDeletestacy this was amazing and wonderful, and it was so fun watching the kids playing bolling and we loved watching
