Early Summer 2018 Part I: Wild Waves and Giggle Jungle
After Tyler came home from his last day of preschool, we celebrated by going down to Wild Waves. During the spring I'd taken them once with Oscar and once each individually with me. This was my first (and last) time taking them both by myself. It's HARD to be the only adult, particularly in the water park. Even doing the rides was hard because Wild Waves has such strict height requirements. I'd explained to Tyler in advance that there would be many rides we couldn't go on and that we'd only be able to do rides that Allison was tall enough for. He agreed to that, but then once we were there he, of course, really wanted to go on all the 42 inch plus rides. Even Allison got fussy when we couldn't do rides like the ferris wheel, the kiddie coaster, or the paratrooper. Several rides require an accompanying adult for each child under 48 inches, and I can't very well leave one child alone while I go on a ride with the other one. It's not the most family friendly themepark...
They still had plenty of fun on the rides they could go on. I figure by the time they truly understand how it all works Tyler will be over 48 inches and Allison will be over 42 and then it will barely even be an issue anymore.
Fortunately the season passes come with some bonus buddy passes, so we brought Ria with us the next week after she was out of school. That opened up a lot more ride options for us.
Unfortunately it was a cloudy day and the water was freezing, so they didn't last long in the water park. Ria tried to take Tyler on some waterslides, but he was getting too cold in the lines. Allison was also getting cold and tired and was starting to meltdown, so we went home early.
I brought Tyler back down on his own on a warm day a few weeks later when we could thoroughly enjoy the waterslides. We only came for the last few hours the park is open when the lines are a bit smaller. After closing we had a dinner date at the nearby Olive Garden.
And in July we got to come down again with auntie Malia. She braved the frog hopper for them, and I remember Allison sweetly saying "wanna ride the horsey with auntie again!"
While there Lia discovered that Allison could do the coastal clipper ride. I hadn't taken her on it since their website says 42 inches minimum, but on the actual ride that's only a requirement if you want to ride alone. I took Allison on it while Lia took Tyler on Lumberjack Falls. Allison was thrilled! She squealed with delight the whole time and cracked me up when she said "I'm on a pirate boat. Ahoy!"
On the 2nd day of summer we drove down to Redmond to meet up with Lia at an indoor play area there called Giggle Jungle. I'd bought a Groupon for it thinking I'd use it on a rainy summer day, but then I noticed the expiration date was only until the 3rd week of June. We ended up using it on an 80+ degree day.
I worked out at and the kids played on the playground at the Bothell YMCA in the morning before Giggle Jungle opened.
Giggle Jungle is a fun but small play area in the Redmond town center. I'd say 5 is about the maximum age that would still enjoy it.
Allison loved playing in the little room with 4 fans on the ceiling and several balloons.
It was definitely worth the $10 groupon I paid.
At lunchtime the kids were able to get out and enjoy the sun while playing in the town center splash park. Apparently we were celebrating the letter C with crepes, croutons, and a cow chip cookie.
After drying off and changing clothes the kids wanted to go back to Giggle Jungle for some more fun.
And on our way home they completely zonked out! Allison even transferred successfully to her bed.
